The following article was published in the Big Spring Daily Herald on Sunday, March 19, 1967: W. M. Byrd, Retired Farmer Funeral for W. M. Byrd, 83, 1008 Sycamore, was held Saturday at 4 p.m., in the Nalley-Pickle Rosewood Chapel, with Rev. Jarrel Sharp, pastor of the Wesley Methodist Church, officiating, and interment in Trinity Memorial Park. Mr. Byrd, father of a local school teacher, Mrs. Paul Sweatt, 3308 Drexel, died Friday at 2:30 p.m. in a hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Byrd was born March 1, 1884, at Jacksboro, and was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Paul M. Byrd, and he married Mrs. Anna Dillard on Dec. 6, 1905, at Willow Point. The family resided at Spur from 1948 until one month ago when they moved to Big Spring. A retired farmer, he was a member of the Woodman of the World Lodge. Pallbearers were Roy Sweatt, Marion Hays, Ronald Sweatt, David Fortson, Emory Sweatt, and Bill Hays. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Paul Sweatt, two brothers, Walter Byrd, Albuquerque, N.M., and Jess Byrd of Wizard Wells; three sisters, Selma Peacher, Waco, Mrs. Lucy Manning, Austin, Mrs. Nettie Brandon, Quanah; two grandsons, Spec. 4. C. Marcus Sweatt, U.S. Army, Fort Campbell, Ky., and Ronald Sweatt, Big Spring; a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Byrd.
