Bio

Stratford Courier January 13, 1916 Obituary Johnson Mrs. Carrie Johnson, one of the pioneer settlers of this community, passed away Jan. 8, 1916, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Bergman, northwest of Stratford, having reached the ripe old age of 86 years, 9 months and 2 days. The cause of her death was due to the infirmities of old age, coupled with a complication of diseases, although she had not been well since she suffered the dislocation of her hip over twelve years ago. Mrs. Johnson was born in Hälsingland, Sweden, April 6, 1829. She was married In Sweden to Jonas Johnson in 1855. To this union was born six children—three daughters and three sons, one son passing away in infancy. In 1868 she was called upon to mourn the death of her husband. In July 1870, she with her five children emigrated to America, locating in Webster township, north of Stratford, where she resided with her son, N.L. Johnson until two years ago, when she went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Carl Bergman. The deceased was a kind and loving mother and a faithful and devoted christian, the bible always being her greatest comfort. Five children, Mrs. A.G. Hollander, Mrs. G.W. Cofer of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Carl Bergman and N.L. Johnson of Stratford, 16 grand-children, four great grand-children and other relatives and a host of friends are left to mourn her passing away. Funeral services were held at the of Logan, Iowa; John T. Johnson and Carl Bergman residence yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C.A. Anderson, pastor of the Stratford M.E. church, and the remains were laid to rest in the Oakwood cemetery. Card of Thanks. We wish to herewith express our heartfelt thanks to the many friends who so kindly assisted us during the illness and the death of our beloved mother, Mrs. Carrie Johnson. May God bless you all.
