Information submitted from Kathy Monical: (edited by Rita Sporrer for clarity of birth location) Joseph Paul Wondra was born October 14, 1850 (edit, birth record in photo section, shows birth in 1849, also birth location in Zvestovice, (outside of Caslav), Okres Havlíčkův Brod, Vysočina, Bohemia and departed this life Friday, January 11, 1935, aged 84 years, 2 months and 28 days. In May 1874 he came to America with his parents, who homesteaded in Saunders county, Nebraska. Four years later, on May 10, 1878, he was united in marriage to Frances Matejka. To this union 15 children were born, five having preceded their father in death. In 1913 he and his family moved to Seward county where on a farm north of Seward he has since resided. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, six sons, Joe, Frank, Louis, Edward, George and Emil of Seward; four daughters, Mrs. John Jasa of Bee, Mrs. Anna Rezac of Seward, Mrs. Rudolph Schroeder of Longmont, Colo., Mrs. Tillie Biggerstaff of Ceresco; two brothers, Frank of Bruno, and James of Lincoln; 18 grandchildren, together with other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, January 13, at 1 o'clock at the home and at 2 o'clock from the Evangelical Frieden's Church, Rev. K. O. Zavadil of Wilber and Rev. Thos. R. Marshall officiating. Interment was made at the Greenwood cemetery. Card of Thanks We wish to thank the neighbors and friends for their kindness and sympathy at the time of the illness and death of our beloved husband and father, and also wish to express our thanks to the ministers. Seward County Independent, Seward, NE, Thurs, January 17, 1935 ------------------------------- Joseph's headstone says his birth was in 1850. His birth record is attached and says he was born in 1849. This is not an uncommon type of error.
