James birth records have been added. His birth date is wrong on the gravestone, and the dates for this memorial reflect the correct dates, as noted in the caption with the birth record. He was named Vincenc, but used or was called several first names over his lifetime: Cenek, Wenceslas, Vaclav, Wenzel, James, J.W. and maybe more. James Wondra Former Resident of Wilber Dies Wilber Republic December 29, 1939 James Wondra was born in Zvestovice, Habry, Havlíčkův Brod, Vysocina, Bohemia, Czechoslovakia, Nov. 23, 1860 (error) and died at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln Friday, December 23, 1939 at the age of 79 (error--81 years old) years, 1 month and 1 day. As a young boy he came to the United States (Saunders County, NB), working in Omaha, Lincoln and Nebraska City where he learned the butcher trade. In 1887, he moved to Wilber and engaged in stock buying and conducting a meat market and packing plant. He was married to Miss Mary Kucera to which union five children were born: Bessie, William, Olga, Carl and Wilma, William dying in infancy. Mrs. Wondra died in 1903. Mrs. Wondra died in 1932. (Note: they had another son, Vaclav, who died as an infant) In 1912, Mr. Wondra moved to Acme, S.Dak., later locating in Sturgis, S. Dak., Bristow, Spencer and Petersburg, Nebr. For the past seven years, he made his home with his daughter, Olga, at Lincoln. He was a member of the Czechoslovakian Society of America (C. A. P.) Lodge Svojan No. 104, Wilber. He leaves to mourn his departure three sons: Carl of Wood, S.D., Leo of Bristow, Nebr., Vincent of Chicago, three daughters, Miss Olga at home, Mrs. Bessie Flaherty of Chicago and Mrs. Wilma Jiracek of Verdigre, Nebr., a brother, Frank, of Bruno, Nebr. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church in Wilber at 9:00 a.m., the Rev. Father Pokorny officiating. Burial was in the Bohemian National cemetery west of Wilber.
