Bio

Charles Robert Chrismer, II was born to Charles Robert Chrismer and Juanita (McSween) Chrismer at their home two miles north of Yuma on September 27, 1919 and passed away July 31, 1995 at the age of 75. He attended the Yuma schools through high school and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a major in Agriculture. He joined the Presbyterian Church of Yuma in 1931. He was a member of the choir for many years and a soloist at many funerals and weddings. Chris, as he was known in the service, enlisted in the Army Air Corps immediately after Pearl harbor was bombed. He was called to active duty in June 1942 and honorably discharged in November, 1945 with the rank of Captain. He received his pilot's wings and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant at Luke Field in Phoenix, Arizona with the Class of '43. Chris completed 128 missions during World War II as a pilot in P51's and P40's in the China Burma theater. He received the Air Medal with cluster and the Distinguished Flying Cross with cluster for outstanding service to his country. He was in the Air Force Reserve until 1952. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Charles served as Commander of the American Legion and served four years on the West Yuma County School Board. He was honored as outstanding Irrigated Farmer in 1978. Charles was a dedicated farmer all of his life and retired in 1985. He was married to Maxine Means in Phoenix, Arizona on August 22, 1942. To this union two sons were born, Charles Robert III (Bob) and Denny Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Maxine. He is survived by his sons, sister, brothers, several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was Thursday August 3, 1995 t 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Yuma with Rev. John Pehrson officiating. Interment was in the Yuma Cemetery.
