Bio
She was born LaVerne Fay Lewis to Hattie Viola Lewis of Ira, Scurry County, Texas. The first seven years of her life, she lived primarily with Randolph Kay Lewis and Mary Elizabeth Miller Lewis . In 1923 her mother married widower, W.V.B. "Bill" Slater of Roscoe, Nolan County, Texas and LaVerne became a part of the Slater household, joining the two Slater children, six year old Willene Slater and eighteen month old G.V. Slater, as their step-sister. LaVerne also had two brothers that were born to her mother and Bill Slater. Birth order of the children was: 1. LaVerne Faye Lewis (Honea, Hamilton), b: February 11, 1916 in Texas 2. Willie Orlean "Willene" Slater (Duncan, Lipscomb), b: January 10, 1917 d: May 11, 1957 in Texas 3. George Vining "G.V." Slater, b: July 25, 1921 d: May 18, 1933 in Texas 4. Living Slater, b: in Texas 5. Living Slater, b: in Texas LaVerne attended public school in Roscoe. After her basic schooling, she studied cosmetology and became a hair dresser. In 1933 she married Richard "Dick" Honea and of their union two children were born: 1. Carole Ann Honea, b: 1933 in Texas 2. Living Honea, b: in Texas At the time of her death from melanoma, she was married to Frank Chandler Hamilton.
