Heber Lauritzen was born April 3, 1875 in Hyrum, Utah. He was the son of Jens Petersen and Annie Kersteina Larsen Lauritzen. He was born in a one room log cabin which had a dirt roof. He attended school in Hyrum at the school on the Hyrum Square. He received an award for the best penmanship and spelling in his class. At the age of twelve he started working at a dairy farm. He liked good horses and always had a good team. His favorite were a team of spotted horses named Bud and Dude. Another horse he had was named Blacky. He worked with his father threshing grain and at the saw mills in the canyons near Hyrum. Heber was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission in Norway from June until October of 1914. He was transferred to the Southern States Mission at that time because of World War I. He returned home after serving his mission in June 1916. He served on the Hyrum Stake Sunday School Board, with the Scouting organization, as a teacher and President of the MIA . He lived in the Hyrum First Ward and was a member of the high priest group. Heber was a dairy farmer. He was a Farm Bureau member and an active member of the Hyrum Saddle Club. He was the Grand Marshal in the July 4, 1964 Hyrum City Parade. He enjoyed riding his horses in the parades. Heber met Stella Obray in 1918. On April 9, 1919 they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Heber and Stella lived in Hyrum. They were blessed to have six children. Libbie was born in 1920. Heber Elden was born in 1922, but was ill and passed away. Another son, Joseph Lynn, was born in 1923. Their last son, Clayn, was born in 1926, but passed away from a blood disease. Another daughter, Stella Loy, was born in 1927. Heber and Stella's last daughter, Faye, was born in October 1930. Unfortunately for Heber and his family, Stella passed away during childbirth. This left Heber a widower with four children and one was a newborn baby. Faye was raised by Stella's brother and his wife, Hillary and Maude Obray. Heber never remarried but raised his children alone. They had fun times and bad times, but managed to make it through. In Heber's later years, he lived with his daughter, Libbie Poppleton. The family held an Open House in celebration of his 90th birthday in April, 1967. Soon after this he had a stroke. Heber passed away January 7, 1968 in Hyrum at Libbie's home. He is buried in the Hyrum Cemetery next to his beloved, Stella and his sons, Heber Elden, Clayn and Joseph Lynn.
