THE PARIS NEWS, Sunday, February 4, 1973.. Funeral sevices were conducted at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 3, in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Hiram C. Secrest, 2005 Lamar Ave., who died at 12:45 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Hospital. The Rev. Wayne Dunson officiated, assisted by the Rev. Kerby Edwards of Dallas. Interment was in Meadowbrook Cemetery. Pallbearers were C. Pride Weaver, James Thomas and Billy Moore, all of Dallas, Billy Blevins, Ben Tow and J.B. Thomas. Mrs. Secrest, the former Tonnie Ann Blackburn, was born in the Sylvan community of Lamar County on August 11, 1898, a daughter of Michael 'Mike' Blackburn and Samantha Alzada Jane Upchurch. She married Hiram C. Secrest on June 28, 1917 in Blossom. The couple lived in Reno, Cunningham and Pattonville. She was a longtime member of Pattonville Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for years. In 1941, Mr. & Mrs. Secrest moved to Paris, where she was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service and Winmore Bible Class of the church until her health failed. Survivors are her husband; two sons, Mitchell Secrest of Paris and J.R.
