Rudolf T. "Rudy" Janek, age 85, a resident of West Rest Haven, formerly of Brandon, passed away Tuesday morning, June 19, 2001, at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside rites will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott, provided by V.F.W. Post No. 4819 in West. Mr. Janek was born on June 2, 1916, in Penelope, the son of Rudolf and Stazie Janek. He attended school in Penelope. He served his country as a Sergeant of the 255th Infantry Regiment during World War II, serving in Widdern, Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service on April 8, 1945. After the war, Rudy farmed in the Brandon community for most of his life until he retired in 1981. During his farming years, he served as President of Farm Bureau and was awarded the Outstanding Comeback Farmer of the Year in 1963 by the Fort Worth Press. Rudy always loved dancing, especially a good polka or waltz and enjoyed eating good food, especially kolaches. He was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and watched them every chance he got. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 4819 and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2305 in West. He was a former member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro and had attended St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He is preceded in death by a brother, Sidney Janek, a sister, Lillian Nors and grandson, Aaron Janek, who died April 29, 1976. He is survived by five sons, Ronald Janek and his wife Jeanette of Italy, Tommy Janek and his fiancee Monica King, David Janek and his wife Eileen, all of West, Willie Joe Janek of Dallas and Harvey Janek of Waco; sister-in-law, Agnes Janek of West; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Ronald James Janek, Stephen Michael Janek, Dennis Matthew Janek, Ryan Mark Janek, Michael Thomas Janek, Matt Russell, Clarence Janek and Joseph Janek. Honorary pallbearers will be Michelle Russell, Lindsey Janek, Shelby Janek and Jared Janek. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption Building Fund in West. Aderhold Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
