John Morse Hughes was born in Davis county, Iowa, November 26, 1860, and died September 16, 1918. He came to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1888, where he worked as a cabinet maker. On June 16, 1890, he married Mrs. Maud Aura Davis. The same year they moved to Trinidad, Colorado, where he did his first contracting of residence work. The mountain climate did not agree with him and he returned to Lincoln in 1891, where he stayed until 1894, at which time he moved to Seward where he was engaged in the contracting and building business until his death.He was the father of five sons: John R., H. Burr, Benjamin H., Teddy, and one son dying in infancy. Besides the four boys he leaves his wife, two brothers and a host of friends.Funeral services were conducted on last Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., from the home, Rev. B. L. Story officiating.
