Funeral services for Mrs. John M. Hughes were held at her residence last Saturday, 10 a.m., Rev. E. L. Reese, pastor of the U. B. church, conducting the service. The body in charge of Chain & Wood, was interred in the Seward cemetery. Maude Aura Davis was born on March 23, 1859, near Bentonsville, Iowa, and departed this life April 16, 1936 at the age of 77 years and 23 days.Her parents passed away in the very early years of her life. She was married to Alonzo Wilson and to this union were born five children: Elizabeth Berry, Hollywood, Calif.; W. W. Wilson, who died at Kansas City in 1927; Ada Kitterman, Ottumwa, Iowa; Maude Franklin, Eldon, Iowa; and James Wilson, Eldon, Iowa.She later married John M. Hughes and moved to Trinidad, Colorado, returning to Lincoln, Nebr. in 1892. They moved to Seward in 1894 and to this union were born: John R. Hughes, H. Burr Hughes, Ben H. Hughes and Ted Hughes, all residing in Seward.Since her illness, which began in November 1934, she has been confined to her home. Prior to that time she was an active member in the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors of America, being a charter member of the latter organization.Besides her eight children she leaves to mourn her departure, 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and a host of friends.Seward Independent, Seward, NE, Thur, April 23, 1936
