Lincoln Journal Star (NE) - Monday, November 26, 2007 Helen L. Sobotka, 102, Lincoln, died Saturday (11/24/07). Born August 17, 1905 to John & Antonie (Maixner) Tomandl in Bee, Neb. Member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Housewife; worked at Conroy's Bakery; Klein's Bakery; Madonna coffee shop; and remedial work at Belmont School. She married Vladislav (Shorty) Sobotka on October 24, 1923. They were married 52 years. Helen's early involvement with family created a bond and trust that developed into lifelong friendships with aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, and friends. She was the "sunshine" lady at the Walters (Autumn Wood) and well known with her little jokes that everyone enjoyed. And oh! those apple pies!! Helen and Val's home was always open to welcome relatives serving in the military, nurses in training, and friends that would stop and visit. A wonderful Czech cook and homemaker. Helen is survived by: son, Duane & wife, Dorothy, Richland, Wash.; son, Richard & friend, Arlene, Gillette, Wyo.; daughter, Marie Braun, Lincoln; brother, Richard & wife, Jane, Tomandl; Mobile, Ala.; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Val; daughters, Carolyn; Janet; and son, Stanley. Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday (11/28/07), Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street. Interment: Lincoln Memorial Park.
