Stanley W. Tomandl died Saturday. The 57-year Northbrook resident was 78 years old. Mr. Tomandl was born May 7, 1916 in Bee, Nebraska. He worked as a farmer, a carpenter, a mortician and in interior design. He ran a business in Barrington and Northbrook called Tomandl Interiors. He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, the Northbrook American Legion post, the Skokie Valley Power Squadron, and the Volunteer Pool. He helped start the American Legion Band, which now is the Northshore Concert Band conducted by John Paynter. Mr. Tomandl played the tuba. Mr. Tomandl was a youth leader for the Northbrook youth center in the 1950s and at St. Peter church in the 1980s. A graveside service was held Tuesday at St. Peter Cemetery off Shermer Road, with a memorial service following at the church.
