Daughter of John & Katherine (Loskot) Nowak. Married Mar. 1, 1882 to N.G. Leroy. Obit in the Seneca, KS paper 7-30-42-1 Mrs. Mary Christiana LeRoy Very suddenly this good mother passed away Friday afternoon, July 24. Soon after a hearty dinner her daughter heard her call from an adjoining room. She asked her mother to repeat what she said, and getting no answer, hurried into the room to see what had happened. Only a few words her mother tried to say, and her life had ebbed out. Mrs. Mary Christiana Nowak LeRoy was born Dec. 15, 1861, at Richmond, Mo. When she was one year old her parents moved to St. Joseph, and when she was nine her parents went to Seneca,Kansas, to take up a homestead which since 1870 has remained in the immediate family and is now owned by her brother, Venelin Nowak. She was married to N. G. LeRoy March 1, 1882, and they made their home in St. Paul, Nebr., where her husband engaged in the life insurance business. they soon joined the church of God. Three children were born to them. During her husband's illness the last seven years of his life Mrs. LeRoy cared for his business. After her husband's death March 10, 1909, she moved to Colorado and took up a homestead there. She returned to St. Paul in 1916 and remained there until 1920. At that time her daughter's husband, Mr. Koch, died leaving his wife and little son, Frederick. Mrs. LeRoy went to live with her daughter and made her home with her ever since. She enjoyed visiting her brothers and sisters, and would always be glad to be home again with her daughterm who since 1923 and up to may, 1941, taught in the Steinauer high school. She attained the age of 80 years, 7 months and 9 days. She leaves to mourn her departure her daughter, Mrs. Jessie Koch; her grandson, Frederick, now in the United States navy; her brothers, Max of Denver and Verelin of Seneca, Kan.; her sisters, Mrs. Sophia Baker of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Victoria Pike of Atwood, Kan., Mrs. Daniel Aschlemann of Sabetha, Kan., and Mrs. Celia Deford of Seneca;other relatives and many friends. Her son Geoge, preceded her in death when he was 6 years old and her daughter Helen, died Sept. 27, 1941; her sister, Mrs. Anna Smith in 1934, her brothers, John and Frank, died within one week, and her brother, Louis died in Lawrence, Kan., in 1940. Funeral worship services were conducted in the Steinauer funeral home Monday morning, in charge of Rev. August Bock of Salem's church, and interment was at Seneca. Pall bearers were Chris Albers, N. A. Steinauer, Joe Bernadt, Carl Bernadt, Henry Wetzel adn Henry Rucker. (Pawnee Republican, Pawnee City, NE. July 30, 1942)
