The Sullivan Progress Sullivan, Illinois Friday, October 31, 1947 MRS. STEELE DIED SUDDENLY AT HOME, SUNDAY Mrs. Laura Ann Steele died at her home Sunday, October 26, at 6:45 a.m. from a heart attack. She was the daughter of Robert and Polly Ann Elzy, who passed away when she was a small child. She was born April 8, 1875. She was united in marriage with Joseph Thomas Steele on November 19, 1891. Surviving her are her husband, and the following children: Mrs. Thelma Carter, Mrs. Lucille Courtright, and Cecil Steele, all of Sullivan; Mrs. Stella Pifer of Decatur; and Ray Steele of West Helena, Arkansas. She also leaves fourteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Steele was the last of a family of five children, four brothers and one sister having preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at the Church of God, of which she was a member, at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. and Mrs. John E Long. Interment was in Greenhill cemetery. The flower girls were Jeanine Carter, Marilyn Carter, Janice Shasteen, Caroline Bruhn, Evelyn Bruhn, Sharon Crisap, Colleen Shaw, Janice Shaw, Doris Summers, Betty Rose Cole, and Lois Pierson. Pall bearers were Hurl Elzy, Kenneth Elzy, Perry Leeds, Elmer Leeds, Delmar Elzy and Don Elzy.
