Records have been found showing his name as "Marshall James" and "James Marshall" Elzy. Per family, he was "Marshall James". The Saturday Herald Sullivan, Moultrie County, Illinois Saturday, August 28, 1909 Marshall Elzy, living hear Bethany died Tuesday of cancer. It will be remembered that he was taken to Decatur sometime ago and a surgical operation showed that he was afflicted with cancer and nothing could be done to relieve him. He leaves a wife and children, a brother, Joseph Elzy, living near Bruce, a sister, Mrs. Frank Leeds, of Jonathan Creek, and many other relatives and a host of friend. The funeral was at Jonathan Creed church Wednesday afternoon and interment was in the Jonathan Creek graveyard." The Decatur Herald Decatur, Illinois 26 Aug 1909 (Thursday) Funeral of M. Elzy The funeral services of Marshall Elzy, who died at his home southwest of this city Tuesday, Aug. 24, were held at Jonathan Creek church Wednesday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Cory, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Interment was made in the Jonathan Creek cemetery.
