Mary A. Capek was born on a farm north of Milligan on August 14, 1893, to John and Anna (Kral) Hromadka. She passed away on Saturday, May 20, 1978, at the Friend Hospital after a long illness, at the age of 84 years, 9 months an d 6 days. She attended school at District 6 north of Milligan. As a young woman, she worked on the family farm and found much joy in playing the organ, both for her own pleasure and for friends. While in her teens, she had received the organ from her parents, which was still in her home. Other interest were cooking, crocheting and gardening. On February 14, 1911, she was united in marriage to Rudolph G. Capek. They made their home on farms south of Milligan, and moved to Milligan July, 1972. Ill health had made it necessary for her to reside at the Friend Manor for the past four years. To this union were born five children: Helen (Mrs. Louis Pribyl) of Friend, John (deceased), Irene (Mrs. Bernard Svec) of Milligan, Rudy R. of Milligan and Ruby $. (Mrs. Edward R. Oliva) of Milligan. She was a member of the Milligan American Legion Auxiliary and the ZCBJ lodge. She took great pleasure in visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and family get-togethers were the highlights of her life. Mary and Rudolph were privileged to observe their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house in 1961. Their last anniversary, the 67th, was spent quietly in the Friend Manor with their immediate family. She was preceded in death by son, John, on October 3, 1960; her parents two brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her husband; one son; three daughters; two daughters-in-law; three sons-in-law; nine grandchildren; six grandchildren-in-law; seven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Farmer & Son-Kotas Chapel at Milligan on Monday, May 22, 1978, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Homer B. Clements officiating. Mrs. Frank V. Hamouz spoke on behalf of the lodge. Robert Kassik sang "Beyond the Sunset" and Kazdy Nese Svuj Kriz," accompanied by Mrs. Albert Naimon. Pallbearers were grandsons, Glen Capek, David Capek, Gary Pribyl, Kenneth Chab, Thomas Weber, Kenneth Jefferson and Kurt Saltzman. Interment was at the Bohemian National Cemetery.
