Obituary from Lewisville Denton County, Texas paper: (condensed) Funeral services were held in Mills, New Mexico Friday Sept 29, 1944 for John Floyd Cates. He was born Feb. 11, 1876 in the Lonesome Dove Community, Tarrant County, Texas and had lived there until 1920, when he had moved to Mills. He is the son of James Alonzo & Lenora J Iles Cate. He was married to Miss Maud Xenia Tompkins on Feb. 18, 1897 in Wise County Texas, To this union were born seven children, all of whom survive. Jennie Frady, Roy Cates, Connie Cates, Ruth Johnson, Opel Yates, Evelyn Harris & Helen Cates; brothers, Jesse, Dea, Carlos,Ira & Homer Cate. Mr. Cates was well loved by everyone who knew him and he leaves a host of friends.
