Hattie was the daughter of Andrew and Catherine (Furtak) Grabowski. She was born in Posen in Howard County and educated at a small Catholic school in Paplin. She worked as a seamstress for many families in the area. She married Louie Waskowiak Novemeber 18, 1918, at Ashton, Nebraska. They were a handsome couple who raised very handsome children. Due to her excellent sewing gifts(she often made her own patterns and reconstructed new garments out of older ones), it was once said that the "Waskowiak kids were the best dressed kids in Sherman County." She birthed all of her children at home. She raised flowers, vegetables and chickens and kept a tidy home. Her home was filled with pictures of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Louis and Hattie farmed near Ashton and later southeast of Loup City. They moved to Loup City in 1960 when they retired from farming. All of her sons served their country at various times, including the Navy, the Air Force, the Army (in Korea) and the NE National Guard. Her Catholic Faith was always important to her and she went to daily mass once she lived in Loup City. She was famous in our family for her cooking, but especially her Chicken Noodle Soup...from butchering the chicken to making the noodles. To this day, it is unsurpassed!
