Shirley Annette Vrla, 55, of Houston, TX passed away at Houston Northwest Hospital on Thursday, June 30, 2011 due to complications from pneumonia. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 22 years Donald Russell Markus, her sons David and Andrew, her daughter Catherine, her mother Albina and brother Milton of Ennis, and her sister Deanna of Dallas. Shirley was born to Mr. Milton F. Vrla, Sr. and Mrs. Albina M. (Ozymy) Vrla on May 13, 1956 in Dallas, TX. Shirley went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from Austin College, and a Master's degree from Texas A&M University-College Station. Shirley first met her husband during her Graduate studies at TAMU, and started dating him while they both worked for Texas Commerce Bank in Houston. The couple married on April 8, 1989 at St. James Catholic Church in Spring, TX. Shirley always strove for perfection in all aspects of her life, and deeply loved her husband, children, and community. A visitation will be held in Conroe on Monday at Cashner Funeral Home between 6:00 and 8:30 PM, with a rosary at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe, TX on Tuesday at 10:00 AM with Father Thomas Rafferty as the principal celebrant and Fathers Philip Wilhite, Tom Hopper and Mike Buentello, CSB concelebrating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Ennis, TX on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Shirley's name to North Houston Catholic High School Student Financial Aid, 7801 Bay Branch Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77382.
