Bessie Mae Carr was a retired art teacher (46 years). 43 years for the Dallas Independent School District. Teaching at the old Silverstein Elementary School on Pine Street in Dallas for 28 years. Her one and only true love was killed in action during World War I. She never married, she truly became the monarch of the Carr family after the death of her mother. She became the mother to all her family being the oldest of 10 children, she was a great teacher of the arts and in life. She was a charter member of the Colonial Baptist Church in Dallas. The library at the church was named the "The Bessie M. Carr Library" in her honor. A portrait of the church that she painted is still on display at the church.
