Bio

Joseph was the second son of Rufus Wheeler Peckham and Isabella Adoline Lacey Peckham. He entered Albany Academy in 1847. Joseph appears to have spent a significant portion of his final years with his mother's relatives in Louisiana. A number of his letters, written during this time to his father and other family members in Albany, are contained in The Wheeler H. Peckham Family Papers, 1838-1894, housed in the Library of Congress, ID No. MSS35744. Joseph died at Albany, a few days after his 17th birthday.
