Elfie R. Merenda, age 93, of West, passed away Wednesday morning, November 21, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Village in Denton. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Closner Cemetery near West, with Rev. Terry McElrath officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 until service time, Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Mrs. Merenda was born May 29, 1919 in West the daughter of Albin and Emilie (Jirasek) Svacek. She attended schools in West. On January 17, 1942 she was united in marriage to Rudolph R. Merenda in West. Rudolph preceded her in death on April 20, 1997. Elfie was a homemaker and was a cashier for several restaurants. She was a longtime member of the S.P.J.S.T. Cottonwood Lodge #6. Elfie is also preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Max Reynolds; three brothers, Alfred Svacek, Benjamin Svacek, and Harry Svacek; and a sister, Norma Pustejovsky. Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn A. Reynolds of Denton; a granddaughter, Kelly Covey and husband Scott of Denton; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made tothe charity of your choice.
