MORGAN COUNTY WOMAN SUCCUMBS FROM INJURIES McConnelsville, Jan 30 –– Mrs. William Smith, aged 94, who fell Saturday morning, sustaining a broken leg, died Monday evening at her home in Malta township, She was the daughter of David and Mary Pettit Newsom [Newman] and was born on a farm near Joetown, where she resided until she removed with her parents to a farm near Malta. Following her marriage to William Smith they located on a farm near Wolf Creek, where they spent 15 years, and then purchased the farm in Malta township where she died. Her father and mother were the parents of 13 children, two of whom are living, Mrs. Nancy Cline, Cannelville, and Mrs. Beulah Hutchins, St. Louis. Mrs. Smith was the mother of nine children, two of whom are deceased, a daughter, Florence, and a son, C. Edward Smith, who passed away with heart disease Monday, Jan. 21. Surviving are Seth A. Smith, Pennsville; Mrs. Mary Thisselle, Eagleport; S. F. Smith, Eli W. Smith and Clarence Smith of Malta township; Mrs. T. D. Barkhurst, Casey, Il., and Mrs. Harrison Parker, with whom she resided. Funeral services will be held from her late home Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Elder C. H. Morin of the Christian church, of which she was a consistent member.
