Hazel Marie Dutton of Gering, NE, died Tuesday Aug. 4, 2009 at Northfield Villa Medical Center in Gering, NE at age 99. She was born September 7, 1909 to Emerson and Daisy (Scott) Ewing at the home of her grandparents in Gering, NE. Hazel attended school in Gering, NE, graduating high school in 1928. She then attended one year at Chadron Normal School and taught in Brown's district in Banner Co., NE. Hazel was married to Waldo A. Dutton on July 12, 1930, in Wheatland, Wyoming. Hazel worked with cub scouts where her sons were in the organization. She was a former member of the Gering Woman's club, Gering Project Club, United Methodist Women of Gering, Hospital Auxiliary and Vice President of the Old Settlers of Oregon Trail Days. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gering. She was on the board of Northfield Villa for 6 years. Hazel and Waldo lived in Gering until 1969 before moving to a farm on Robidoux Road. In 1980 they moved to town and in July of 1982 they moved to Northfield Villa. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother Myron and Marvin; sister - Goldie Bigsby; and daughter-in-law Sandra of Orange, TX.
