Bio
Born in Glen Allen, AL, Henderson was the son of James E. and Nancy (Whitehead) Mills. About 1880 Henderson married Marthan Bowles, b. 27 Sept 1862, AL. They had 5 children between 1881 and 1894, and 6 days after baby Marthan's birth on 21 Oct., Marthan died at age 32, on Oct 27, 1894. (She lies buried at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, Fayette Co., AL; sharing the same marker as her eldest child, Wm Thomas, who was 13 when she died and in 1905, he died at age 24 years, leaving a wife, Lula, and 3 children.) Allen; d. Jul 23, 1982, G. Allen; Martin Luther b. Sept 1889, G. Allen, d. Jul 31, 1922, Purcell; and Marthan b. Oct 21, 1894, G. Allen; d. April 06, 1967, Paoli, Garvin Co., OK. 3 years later on Nov 25, 1897, in Glen Allen, 38 year old Henderson wed 18 year old Icie Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Alva Josephus and Sarah Elizabeth (Bishop) Smith. Besides his 5 children, they would add 7 more of their own. Henderson was a carpenter and after the birth of Joseph Ellis in 1913 the family moved to McClain Co. Henderson died on November 28, 1936 at the age of 77. Icie lived another 27 years, passing away at the age of 84 on April 6, 1963.
