Bio

Parents: John and Nancy Porter Owenby. Married Martha Morgan on March 3, 1797. Born in Pittsylvania, VA. Porter and Martha Owenby: From the booklet "The Ownbeys(Owenby)(Ownby) Of Union COunty Georgia". located in the library of the Union County Historical Society, Blairsville, GA, written by W. Lake Stroud. "Porter and Martha Morgan Ownbey are believed to have been buried in Antioch Cemetery in unmarked graves; as Porter died 1853 and the first person buried in what was to become the Ebeneezer Cemetery was Humphrey Posey Ownbey's son, Russell L Ownbey in November, 1862. It is also possible that Perminter, his wife and daughter, Martha Caroline are also buried at Antioch in unmarked graves. Martha Caroline was 13 years old on the 1850 census: she was not listed on the 1860 census and family history is that she never married."Compiled by Lake and Kathy Stroud(Lake Stroud is a direct descendant of Porter and Martha) More on Porter and Martha: The book, Heritage of Union County, a copy located at the Union County Historical Society, Sec 46, Ebeneezer Church: Ebeneezer Church was organized in 1857 by several families who withdrew from Antioch Baptist Church. Some of these families were Stephens, Ledfords, Owenbys, Ezells, Garrons, Erwins, Logans and Rogers. The earliest existing records are church minutes dated 1869......Church minutes dated Saturday, June 19th, 1874 states that Br. H. Posey Owenby deeded a plat of ground consisting of eleven by nine poles to the church.A "pole is a measurement of land being 16.5 feet in length.(Submitted by Wade Stroud) ∼ Porter is believed to be buried in this cemetery. There is also a Memorial stone in Ebenezer Cemetery Find A Grave Memorial# 70755898
