No stone or marker. Buried next to his wife.
Joseph P. Owenby was one of the first settlers in Morrow Township, Macon County, Missouri. In 1832 he was in 'Owenbey Settlement,' where Bloomington, Mo., is now. Joseph later purchased land in La Plata, which extended south to the cemetery. He buried his wife, Hannah, there in 1847. Hers was the first grave in the La Plata Cemetery (Original Block 5 Row 7) and when Joseph died, he was buried beside her. Joseph Porter Owenby was too old to serve in the Civil War, but furnished another man a horse, saddle and bridle to go. Joseph and his wife Hannah Wright had nine children. The children were: Canada, Joseph Porter, John, Ambrose, James, Powell, Elizabeth, Nancy and Louise.
