The Jamestown Sun, ND April 2-7, 2001 Fred J. Cink Sr., 88, Valley City, N.D., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City. Mr. Cink was born Feb. 8, 1913, at Bee, Neb., the son of Joseph and Bessie (Moravacek) Cink. He moved with his family to Stirum, N.D., where he attended and graduated from high school. In 1938 he graduated from Valley City State University, where he was a member of Tau Lambda Sigma fraternity. He married Hulda Schaffer Aug. 20, 1941, at Gackle, N.D. He taught school at Stirum, Gackle, Colfax, McHenry, Wishek, Jamestown, and Kathryn, N.D., and at Valley City High School. He coached at St. Catherine's High School and refereed basketball at numerous area schools. He was active in softball and horseshoes and managed the Valley City Country Club. He owned and operated College Grocery for 22 years and A&W for five years, both Valley City. He was a charter member and past president of Valley City Lions Club; past member of the Eagles; and a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. For the last 24 years he wintered in Mesa, Ariz. He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Constance (Keith) Laite, Fargo, Cathleen (Roland) Galer, Molalla, Ore., Maloye (Michael) Lesmeister, Harvey, N.D., Kerry (James) Fenstad, Valley City, and Terry Christensen, Milbank, S.D.; two sons, Jay, Valley City, and Fred Jr. (Debra), Port Orchard, Wash.; two brothers, Victor, Grand Forks, N.D., and Edwin (Ida Mae), Sacramento, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and seven brothers.
