Bio

Hulda Adella Schaffer was born December 23, 1922 in Gackle, ND, to Jacob and Clara (Schultes) Schaffer. She graduated from Gackle High School in 1940 and married Fred J. Cink the following year. They had seven children. The family owned and operated the College Grocery on the Valley City State University campus for 22 years and the A&W Drive-In in Valley city for 5 years. In 1959, Hulda graduated from VCSU, summa cum laude, with both an elementary and a secondary degree in English. She taught at Tower City, Svea, Pillsbury, Gackle, Lisbon, and Kathryn, ND. Hulda enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle with family and friends. She was a lifetime member of the Congregational Church. Fred and Hulda wintered in Arizona for 26 years. After Fred passed away in 2001, Hulda lived in Valley city until 2006 when she moved to Fargo. She moved to Eventide in Moorhead, MN, in 2012. Hulda passed away at Eventide on June 18, 2018. She is survived by daughters, Connie Laite, Fargo; Cathie (Roland) Galer, Molalla, OR; Maloye (Michael) Lesmeister, Fargo; Kerry (Jim) Fenstad, Fargo; Terry Christensen, Milbank, SD; and sons, Jay, Marion, ND; and Fred Jr., Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 34 great - grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, 1 sister-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. Funeral services will be held at Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City Saturday, June 23, at 2 pm. Visitation will be 2 hours before the service at the church. Burial will be at Memory Gardens following the service. Funeral arrangements are by Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
