Bio

August was born to August Jr. and Mary Kucera Skopek and grew up in the San Antonio Prairie community near Caldwell Tx. He attended Hogg School and worked on his father's farm. He moved to Houston to find work in 1936 and worked as a truck driver, milk man, and at the ship yards. He married Velma Luedke of Deanville, Tx. on Oct. 31, 1936. Two children were born, Gloria Jean in 1938 and Rebecca Claire in 1939. He served in Europe in WWII as a tank mechanic. The family moved to Rockdale Tx. where he built a cabinet shop. Later in Austin, Tx. he continued his woodworking skills until retirement. He died in Austin at the age of 66.
