The Norfolk Daily News; Norfolk, Nebraska; Monday, May 21, 1928; Page 2 Deaths J. M. Covert J. M. Covert, long time resident of this city, died at his home, 415 South Fourth street, at 5:15 Sunday afternoon following an illness of a year and a half. Mr. Covert, who was 72 years old last August, had lived in Norfolk forty years, being engaged in the rug-making business until his retirement. Among those who survive are the widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Mary Percy, Burlington, Ia., S. Perry Covert, Rapid City, S. D., Richard S. Covert, Sheridan, Wyo., Mrs. Bernice Haney, David and James, Chicago; Flora and Kenneth, Norfolk. Arrangements for the funeral have not been made, pending the arrival of the family. Covert were held at the residence, 415 South Fourth street, at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and at the Methodist church at 2:30, the Rev. Carl E. Bowen officiating. Pallbearers were: W. R. Hoffman, J. P. Lough, Charles Doughty, C. A. (unreadable), H. N. Cooper and H. H. Lake. Mr. Covert was born Aug. 23, 1855, in Franklin, Johnson county, Indiana, and died May 20. At the age of 7, he moved with his parents to Benton county, Iowa where he grew to manhood. From there he went to Clifton, Kan., where he was married to Miss Laura Jameson of Reamsville, Kan., Jan. 29, 1880, moving to Norfolk eight years later. To them were born five children, three of whom survive, Mrs. Mary Percy, S. Perry Covert and Richard F. Covert, two, Freddy and Lora having died in infancy. Mrs. Covert died in 1891 and June 16, 1897, he was married to Mable Bouy of Ewing. To them were born five children, Bernice R. Haney, Flora L., David C., James M., and Kenneth B., all of whom, with their mother, survive. He also has a brother, D. C. Covert, living at Portland, Ore. Mr. Covert became identified with the Presbyterian church in early life, and later joined the Methodist church of this city, being an active member. He also took an interest in political and civic affairs and, until his retirement, conducted a rug making business. all spelling and punctuation as it appeared in the papers. (GH)
