Virgil C. Cassel Jan. 11, 1925 - April 15, 2011 ST. CHARLES, MO - On April 15, 2011, Virgil C. "VC" Cassel passed away at home in St. Charles, MO. In his final days, he was lovingly cared for by his wife of 57 years, Mary Alice Wood Cassel, and his children, Cindy (Dr. Michael) Tachman, Ron (Jeanne) Cassel, Terri (Gary, deceased) Doffit, Dr. David (Dr. Darlinda) Cassel, Julie (Chris) Storer and Casey Garrard. VC is also survived by a sister, Irene Cassel Wilds, 14 grandchildren, including Rikki, Jackie and AJ Tachman of Granger, as well as one great-grandchild, many nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren. Our beloved patriarch lived the American dream, growing up in East Texas during the Depression, graduating and enlisting in the Navy at 16, serving in both WW II & the Korean Conflict. After service, he graduated from the University of Texas, married his childhood sweetheart, and began work on a career that spanned four decades. His family and all who met him along his life's path will miss him dearly, but celebrate his amazing life. Mr. Cassel will be interred at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, MO. His favorite charitable cause was the work of the American Heart Association. Published in South Bend Tribune from April 20 to April 22, 2011
