Bio

LaRay Rasmussen died April 16, 1998 in Provo, Utah. He was born September 8, 1909 in Molen, Emery County, Utah, son of Thorvald and Lucy Barton Rasmussen. His early years were spent in Molen and Ferron, Utah. He moved to Salt Lake City in 1929 to work as an electrician. He graduated from Ferron High School and West High School (Salt Lake City) and later attended the University of Utah and Brigham Young University.As a young man LaRay served for 26 months in the Northwestern States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1987-88, he and his wife, Ruth, served in the Idaho, Boise Mission. "Ray" always had a strong testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. He served in numerous church positions and did many years of service in the temple. LaRay was preceded in death by a former wife, Hortense Mortensen, two sisters, Ruby Rasmussen and Crystal Rasmussen Maughan and a son, Gary Lynn Rasmussen. LaRay is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Johanson Rasmussen, Provo; one sister, Cleo R. Powell, Murray; three sons, Everett LaRay Rasmussen, Provo; Kenneth LaRay Rasmussen (Marilyn), Salt Lake City; David Elver Rasmussen (Doris) Sandy; two daughters, Karen R. Rawcliffe (Vern), Orem; Jean R. Moore (Richard), Heidelberg, Germany; 27 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Pleasant View 9th Ward, Rock Canyon Chapel, 2445 N. 650 East (Timpview Dr.) Provo, Utah, on Wednesday, April 22, 1998 at 11 am. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center St. (Provo), on Tuesday, April 21, 6-8 p.m. or at 10 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the funeral. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills, Provo, Utah.
