Ella Fridel, age 96 of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 18, 2000 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary was recited a 7 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with the Rev. Melvin Dornak as celebrant. Burial will follow at Pavelka Cemetery near Elk. Mrs. Fridel was born on February 22, 1903 in Schulenburg, the daughter of Louis and Frances (Kahanek) Mladenka. She moved with her family to Elk at an early age. She married Joe A. Fridel in 1921. He preceded her in death in 1978. Mrs. Fridel lived in the Elk community and Bellmead before moving to West in 1979. She was a homemaker and loved hand quilting, gardening and being with her family and friends. She was a volunteer for the Bellmead and West Senior Citizens (SLAP). She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption and St. Anne's Altar Society in West. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mildred Scruggs and son-in-law, Donald Scruggs of Flemington, New Jersey and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by a son, Emil J. (Sonny) Fridel and his wife, Pearl of West; four grandchildren, Mary Ann Kubacak and her husband, Virgil of Round Rock, Lorrie Zeiders and her husband, Robert, Donna Cox and Stacy Scruggs, all of New Jersey; four great-grandchildren, Aaron Kubacak, Robert Zeiders, Kathryn Zeiders and Charlie Zeiders; three sister-in-laws, Edna Terrell and Ruby Webb, both of Bellmead and Martha Mladenka of Waco and twelve nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Raymond (John) Pavelka, Lyndon Middleton, Freddie Kaluza and Aaron Kubacak, J.L. Middleton, Ed Havel and Bubba Webb. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity. Aderhold Funeral Home in West is in charge of arrangements.
