Walter Theodore Greener (1922 - 2011) Walter Theodore Greener, 88, devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, passed from this life Wednesday morning, April 13, 2011. Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Burleson. Interment: Emerald Hills Memorial Park, Kennedale. Rosary: 7 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to St. Ann Bereavement fund, 100 SW Alsbury Blvd., Burleson, Texas 76028. Walter was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Westphalia to George and Ida Moeller Greener. During World War II, in the South Pacific, Walter proudly served his country three years in the U.S. Army. He married Lucille Rose Green on June 14, 1949, and they started their family in Cyclone. They were blessed with seven children, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and another great-grandbaby due in July. They moved from Cyclone to Fort Worth in 1956. Walter worked as a farmer/blacksmith during the first years of their marriage. He learned to be a proficient welder/fabricator working at Vought Corp., LTV, Frits Glitch, Convair, Quinn Sheet Metal and Spinks Enterprise, where he welded helicopter frames during the Vietnam War. Besides taking great pride in their large family, he had a passion for polka music, playing trumpet and accordion for the Cen-Tex Polka Band for several years alongside his wife and two of their sons. He enjoyed watching the Texas Rangers play baseball, and throughout his life, he also enjoyed fishing with his five sons. Walter's life was marked with integrity. He was known as a man of honesty and as having a great work ethic. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Burleson. Walter would wish to give special thanks to Joe Hinojosa for faithfully driving him to the fitness center, twice a week, for the past three years. Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucille; and two sons, Bill and Don Greener. He was also preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Olivia Hoelscher Greener; and one brother, Raymond Greener. Survivors: Children, Katherine Wathen and husband, Don, Gerald Greener and wife, Melissa, Randy Greener Sr. and wife, Susan, Jean Greener and Vernon Greener Sr. and wife, Della; daughter-in-law, Charlene Heemels; brother, Henry Greener; sisters, Dorothy Russ, Evelyn Pelligrin, Marie Campbell, Pauline Whitlow and Claralee Gausemeier; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and an abundance of friends.
