Jacob was born to William Trobaugh and Barbara Caplinger. He moved with his parents to Logan County, Kentucky in about 1805, and their surname became Traughber. He wed Catherine Weaver in Robertson County, Tennessee in 1822. They lived in Logan County, Kentucky and had: 1) Sarah in 1823 2) Sina in 1824 3) Daniel in 1825 In about 1826, Jacob moved to Sangamon County, Illinois and had: 4) Elizabeth in 1828 5) Martha in 1830 6) William Jackson on Jun 7, 1838 The family shows in the 1840 Clay County, Illinois census on page 109 and noted as Trober.
