AMANDA ELIZABETH HAMBY JAY, Okla. - Amanda Elizabeth Hamby, 92, a life-long resident of Delaware County, left her mortal life to join her Lord on October 11, 2003, at Monroe Manor in Jay. Mrs. Hamby was born on March 2, 1911 to Jay and Nettie (Loftis) Phillips at Southwest City, Mo. Amanda attended school at Clouds Creek. In 1929 she married Elbert Hamby in Little Kansas, Okla. They were blessed with six sons. Mrs. Hamby is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Glen and Carma, Bill and Rena and David and Phyllis Hamby, all of Jay; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters Ora Whitechurch of Picayune, Mich., and Anna Dobrinski of Depew, Okla; and one brother Jay Phillips of Jay. Mrs. Hamby was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Elbert Hamby, who died in 1982. Three sons Wayne, J.B. and Elbert Jr. Hamby also preceded her in death. Mrs. Hamby was a wife, mother, grandmother, friend and homemaker all her life. She will be loved always and missed forever. Graveside services were held Tuesday, October 14, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hamby family cemetery, with Sam Cooper speaking words of comfort. Mrs. Hamby lay in state at Turner Funeral Chapel in Jay until Tuesday morning. Funeral services were under the direction of Turner Funeral Chapel.
