Bio
Glen D. Hamby, retired educator, passed from this life September 2, 2021, at Miami, OK, at the age of 87. Glen was born November 3, 1933, in rural Colcord, Oklahoma to Elbert and Amanda Elizabeth (Phillips) Hamby. He was a graduate of Tulsa East Central High School. He attended Bacone Junior College and received his bachelors and master's degrees from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He married Carmaleta Payton, December 31, 1968. Glen worked 42 tremendously rewarding years in public education as a teacher, coach, counselor, and principal. He began his career in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He taught 7 years in the state of Arizona and served 26 years as Jay Middle School Principal. He retired in 1999 to enjoy life on the farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Amanda Hamby; his five brothers, Wayne, J.B., Billy, Elbert, Jr., and David Hamby. Glen is survived by his wife, Carmaleta of the home; sisters-in-law, Rena Hamby, Phyllis Hamby, Judy Larmon and husband Don; brother-in-law, Ross Payton, all of Jay, Oklahoma along with several special nieces and nephews; a host of cousins and friends.
