Bio
Martha A (either Ann or Agnes) was the youngest child of the 10(?) born to Green H. Fields and wife Celia Jernigan in Carroll County, TN. After Martha's birth but before the 1860 census, her parents move the family to Texas. Martha age 8 appears with her parents and siblings on the 1860 Grayson County TX census, and then in 1870 Collin County TX at age 18 with her widowed mother and siblings. [Note: There is a different Martha Fields born about 1835 who is living with the Green and Celia Fields family in Carroll County TN on the 1850 census. Some family trees show that Martha as their daughter, but it is unlikely that Green and Celia would name two living daughters "Martha." The older Martha is probably a relative who was living with them as household help. She marries a Mebane and stays in Carroll County TN when the rest of the Green and Celia Fields family removes to Texas.] This Martha marries W H McMennamy 1 Dec 1874 in Grayson County TX. The young couple is found on the 1880 Grayson County TX census with their first three daughters.
