Private James H. Esgate -Born in the town of Hilgay in Norfolk England in 1829. He married Anne E. Register (date unknown) who was also born in England. He served in Co.E 166 Ohio National Guard Inf. During the Civil War of 1861-65 (The N.G. Did not leave the state during the war and was for home defense.) He came to Coeur d'Alene area around 1908. He died Dec. 6th 1913 of a stroke at age 84. He was buried in the Forest Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene Idaho with full military honors by the G.A.R. Post No.18. -The attached war time photo of James is from the GAR Post membership records. The photo of his military grave stone. (Look to the right behind it and you'll see his family grave stone were he and his wife Anne Elizabeth are buried, For some reason I forgot to take a photo of it.) this photo and the ones of the cemetery were taken in Oct. 1988.
