George Fletcher Powell, 84, passed away at his residence on December 30, 2005. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Anna, Texas, Monday, January 2, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home in Van Alstyne. The service was officiated by Joe Lightner. He was born on February 17, 1921 to Sherley and Ethel (Cromer) Powell in Anna, Texas. He married Hazel Lewis on July 4, 1942. George was a retired farmer and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Anna, Texas. He is survived by 3 sons: George Ray Powell of Houston, Johnny Edward Powell of Princeton, Kenneth Wayne Powell of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 6 daughters: Linda Ruth Turner of Franklinville, New Jersey, Shirley Jean Emert of Spring Branch, Wanda Gilbreath of Terrell, Diane Hill of Floydada, Glenna Powell of Terrell and Pamela Enriquez of Italy, Texas; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Freida Kimich of Waller, Texas, Dessa Adams of Anna; 3 brothers: Edward & Tillman Powell of Anna and Kenneth Powell of Floydada,. George was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Lewis Powell in January of 1988; 1 brother, W.D. Powell; 3 sisters, Catherine Poteet, Carrie Sanborn, and Mary Francis Powell.
