There was sorrow and surprise all through this portion of the country, Sunday, when it was learned that Ira L. Stanley had died the night before. He was one of the most respected citizens of this portion of the country where all his useful and peaceful life had been spent. He grew to manhood on the farm three miles west of Douglass, that was homesteaded by his father about 1871. He was enterprising and public spirited, but considerate and kindly to all. He was acting trustee of his township, member of the Richland School Board and important citizen of the county. Ira Lemuel Stanley, son of Fletcher and Adelia E. Stanley, and was 53 years, four months and six days of age. His death was caused by a severe attack of flu, developing into pneumonia. He attended high school in Douglass, later entering Wichita Business College. He then came home to help his father on the farm. He was united in marriage, December 23, 1904, with Miss Della M. Wakefield. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Della Stanley, a daughter, Mrs. Ava (Isaac) Russell, a son, Walter F. Stanley, all of Douglass vicinity; and three sisters, Mrs. Will Cramer and Mrs. Glenn Rowe of Douglass, and Mrs. Claude Putney of Los Angeles, CA. He was a member of Douglass Lodge A.F.&A.M. While he had not enjoyed good health for some time, serious illness overtook him about two weeks before his passing. He suffered intensely and became too weak to withstand the strain. With tender, loving hands he was administered to by his devoted wife and children. His life was one of unselfish devotion. To know Ira was to love him. His kind, genial disposition and friendly smile won for him the good will and respect he so richly deserved far and near. He will be greatly missed by his devoted family and a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church in Douglass, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. George Watts with burial in Richland Cemetery near his home. A quartet composed of Miss Maude Haver, Mrs. Frank Bush, E.L. Wilson, and Harry Scott rendered appropriate music. Mrs. Walter Essex was at the organ. A large concourse of relatives and friends assembled to pay their last respects to the memory of a loved one.
