The Wellington Leader May 30, 1985 Ray H. Null, 61, farm demonstration assistant with the Northwest Texas Research Demonstration Program died May 27, in Collingsworth General Hospital after an illness of several months. The program with which he was associated is a joint venture of Texas A&M Extension Service and Texas A&M Experiment Station. He helped conduct tests in a 5-county southeast Panhandle area, seeking crop varieties methods best adpated to this part of the state and in other parts of the state similar to this. Some results of his work have been incorporated in the recommendation of the Extension Service and Experiment Station and now are accepted practices. He had worked with several crops new to this area in Texas A&M's search for new sources of farm income. A long-time farm leader, Mr. Null had farmed near Wellington before being employed by the Extension Service. He served on the County ASCS committee. He was president and secretary-treasurer of Collingsworth County Farm Bureau, and was on the board of directors several years. Wellington Future Farmers of America made him an Honorary Chapter Farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Over a long period of church work, he had served as treasurer, Sunday School superintendent, treasurer, a director of youth groups. He was a Sunday School teacher and song leader. Mr. Null was born August 18, 1923 in Collingsworth County, the son of the late Albert F. Null and Docia E. Rankin Null. He graduated from Wellington High School and was married to Vaneita Young in Wellington January 20, 1945. Survivors are his wife; one son, David Null of Lubbock; one daughter, Connie Westlake of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Rev. Fred Null of Lemon Grove, Ca.; and 6 sisters: Ruth Bishop of Marlow, Okla.; Gertrude Winegeart of Lefors, Nona B. Thomas of Childress, Onita Hughes of Lubbock, Doris Lund of Port Orchard, Washington and Dorene Young of Pampa.
