Childress – Funeral services for Harvey "Pete" Wayne Atkinson, 56, a former Kirkland resident, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Schooler-Gordon chapel with Mike Henderson of the Childress church of Christ officiating. He died Wednesday in Shreveport, LA where he had lived for 28 years. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery. He was born in Garden Valley August 14, 1926. He was an employee of Morton Salt Co., a member of the Westview Christian Church in Shreveport, Qeensboro Masonic Lodge, the E. L. Karubath Shrine, VFW and Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife, Bettye of the home; two sons, Stephen Atkinson of Shreveport, and Gary Atkinson of Dallas; his parents, Raymond and Annie Atkinson of Kirkland, a brother Bobby Atkinson of Navisoto, four grandchildren and one great-grand-child, and several uncles and aunts. Pallbearers will be J. W. Templeton, Kenneth Ellis, James Hassell, Ronald Lynn Atkinson, Marty Turentine, and Lessee Myers. Honorary pallbearers will be E. W. Clanton and Richard Latson, both of Shreveport. The family requests memorials to Westview Boys Home in Hollis in lieu of flowers. Published August 1, 1983. Added by Sydney Key
