William John McDonald Funeral services for William John McDonald of Edge, 77 were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the New Church cemetery at Edge. The Rev. R. B. Sweet, pastor of the Church of Christ at College Station, conducted the services, with Sanders-McCullough Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Mr. McDonald died at 7:30 O'clock Tuesday Morning at a local hospital after a long illness. He had lived in Edge all of his life. He was a farmer and belonged to the Church of Christ. Surviving him ar his widow, Mrs. Mattie McDonald; two daughters; Mrs. E. C. Coursey of Coleman and Mrs. Jessie Wilson of Edge; four sons W.D. McDonald and V. C. McDonald of Normangee; J. M. Mcdonald of Coleman; R. D. McDonald of Macy; two brothers, R.M. McDonald of Normangee and G. W. McDonald of Plainview. Obit published in the Normangee Star August 4, 1938 Obit published in The Eagle July 26, 1938 At a local hospital this morning at 7:45 o'clock, William John McDonald, well known resident of the Edge community, passed away, following an illness of some length. On account of his advanced age, Mr McDonald's condition was serious for some time and his passing was not unexpected, but news of his death brought sincere regret to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances over this section. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the New Church Cemetery at Edge, with REv. R.B. Sweet, pastor of the Church of Christ at College Station, officiating. Sanders-McCullough Funeral Home will have charge of all arrangements. W.J. McDonald was born in the Edge community, and lived there all his life. He was born May 22, 1861, and at the time of his passing was 77 years, 2 months, and 4 days of age. A farmer in the early days of Texas, when every man was the "captain of the ship," and every home a haven of rest and plenty with hospitality sincere and gracious, W.J. McDonald was typical of the pioneers of this community. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are his aged widow, Mrs. Mattie McDonald; two daughters, Mrs. E. C. Coursey of Coleman, and Mrs. Jesse Wilson of Edge; four sons, W.D. McDonald and V.C. McDonald of Normangee; J.M. McDonald of Coleman, and Rube McDonald of Edge, and two brothers, Rich. M. McDonald of Normangee, and G.W. McDonald of Plainview.
