Bio

Robert Andrew Rabroker passed away February 2, 2011. He was born November 19, 1917 in Westphalia, Texas to Ben and Rosa Greger Rabroker who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Msgr. George Rabroker, Msgr. Edward Rabroker, Raymond Rabroker; and sisters, Viola Huser and Mary Ann Ehler. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty; sons, Robert and wife, Lee, Stephen and wife, Toni, Philip and wife, Mary Pat; daughters, Dr. Mary Richey and husband, Mike, Martha Sanders and husband, Dr. Charles Sanders, Catherine Johnson and husband, Randy; sister, Gladys Doskocil; fifteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. During World War II, Robert was drafted from the farm community of Westphalia, Texas, serving four years in the Army. While based at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington D.C. he met and married his wife, Betty Lansdale. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1950 and continued graduate studies at Cornell and Maryland Universities. In Dallas he served over eleven years as Associate County Agricultural Agent and worked extensively with 4-H Club of Dallas County, the largest chapter in Texas with over 6000 boys and girls. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1962 from the Agricultural Extension Service for contributions made to agricultural and rural living. In Dallas, Robert taught Catholic Christian Doctrine to young adults and served in many church and civic organizations. In San Antonio, at Blessed Sacrament, he served as Eucharistic Minister for the homebound for twenty-seven years. He retired from Catholic Life Insurance as Grand Vice President in 1982. Robert enjoyed carving, gardening, baking and volunteer work. Robert's life revolved around his family and his faith and was evident through all he did. Rosary and Mass will be held at the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia, Texas beginning at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 5, 2011. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Westphalia, Texas.
