He was the eighth of their nine children. Elisha's grandparents were James Chambers and Nancy Windsor who were married in England, then settled in Maryland, and reared their family in North Carolina. Elisha's great grandparents on his mother's side were Jerry O'Rielly and Margaret Ann Mannon who were married in County Cork, Ireland. Elisha and Margaret Manning were married in July 1835. They were the parents of 13 children. The couple bought 320 acres on East Fork Creek near Chambersville. Elisha Chambers and Jacob Bryan donated the land for the Chambersvile school and the church property. The cemetery was donated by Elisha Chambers "to surround the grave of their small baby forever and forever."
