He was the husband of Martha J Giles married 25 Oct 1874 Grayson County, Texas He was known as Bud by his family. Jan 4, 1915 McKinney, Collin County, TX newspaper headline: Corpse Shipped in, Relatives Notified is Money Missing? Something of a mystery surrounds the shipment of a corpse to Anna one day last week. From the best information obtainable it appears that a man named Bud Pope, a bachelor, who had lived for a short time in the Weston Community, left about three or four months ago in a wagon for some point in South Carolina. It is claimed that when he left he was possessed of some $400 in cash, together with a good team of mules and a wagon. While there is no definite information concerning Mr. Pope's travels from the time he left the Weston Community, it is thought that his course was through Oklahoma and Arkansas and on reaching Hot Springs he sicken and died. It is supposed that, from some of his effects it was learned that Anna was the nearest railroad depot to his starting point and the body was accordingly sent there, consigned only to that station. According to report the express agent at once began inquiries and finally located a nephew of the dead man who upon notification received the body and took it out to the Weston Community for burial. It is said the relatives are puzzled over the fact that all of the deceased's money and property had disappeared in a manner that is yet to be accounted for. above information by email from: Vera Reeves
