Nickname; Lige Born in Cooke County, Tennessee Father: Aaron Baxter Mother: Leaner Brown Lige was captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi during the Civil War but was released in about a week and returned to Cooke County where he married Aron Bryant's daughter, Margaret. Lige and Margaret had three children born before they came to Texas. He probably came to Texas after hearing many stories while at Vicksburg. His brothers-in-law ( James Polk Duncan, Felix Grundy Lewis, and James Stuart)had already moved to Texas before him. Lige and Aron Bryant, his father in law, moved to Texas together. Elijah first leased land in the Walnut Grove Community and it was here his fourth child was born in 1871. Elijah's wife died in August of 1872. Elijah then bought a farm and settled in the Franklin Community. In a couple of years, Elijah married another fine and dedicated wife, Eliza Jane Hunter, daughter of John and Comina Hunter who had moved to Collin County from Tennessee in the 1850's.
